Spatial-Temporal Patterns and Driving Effects of Equalization of Basic Public Services between Urban and Rural Areas
Using data from 31 provinces in China from 2012 to 2021,this study constructs an evaluation index system for urban and ru-ral basic public services.Utilizing entropy method and information entropy function,it calculates the level of equalization of basic public services across provinces, and comprehensively examines its dynamic distribution characteristics, spatial differentiation sources, spatial correlations, and driving effects. The results indicate:(1)Significant improvement in the equalization level of urban and rural basic public services in China, with an annual growth rate of 3.63%,showing a spatial distribution pattern of "east-central-west" with decreasing gradients.(2)The overall difference,intra-regional differences, and inter-regional differences in the equalization level of urban and rural basic public services are narrowing, with inter-regional differences being the main source of spatial differentiation, contributing on average56.06%.(3)There is a clear spatial correlation in the equalization level of urban and rural basic public serv-ices,primarily characterized by"low-low" clustering.(4)Economic effects, social effects, and scale effects have significant positive driving effects on the equalization of urban and rural basic public services, while efficiency effects exhibit a negative driving effect that continues to strengthen. The study provides policy implications for narrowing the gap in basic public services between urban and rural areas and achieving common prosperity.
