Reflective yarn exhibits excellent reflective properties. However, there are still some problems such as coarse diameter, low tensile strength, high brittleness, poor elasticity, and susceptibility to bending fractures. This study investigates the performance of reflective yarn that incorporates polyester filaments wrapped around its surface. The damage incurred during warp knitting processes and the difficulties in knitting this type of yarn are studied. The tensile and reflective properties are evaluated through analyzing factors influencing the knitting process. Two strands of S+Z twisted 5.56 tex/24 f(50 D/24 f)polyester filaments FDY are used to wrap a reflective yarn with a diameter of 0.16 mm for experiments conducted on a double-needle bar Raschel knitting machine.Additionally, the production techniques employed for knitting reflective yarn are elaborated. The results show that fabrics knitted from reflective yarn interlaced with conventional knitting threads exhibit significant reflectivity while demonstrating satisfactory abrasion resistance and wash durability, thus fulfilling both comfort and functional requirements for apparel textiles.
