This study focused on Fair Isle knitting,combining relevant domestic and international literature with museum collections to systematically trace the historical origins of its knitting techniques,and analyzed its develop-ment over different periods.By examining the patterns,arrangements,colors,materials and technology of traditional Fair Isle knitting,the research provided a detailed exploration of its design characteristics and production tech-niques.Fair Isle knitting is renowned for its unique geometric patterns and rich color combinations,often inspired by natural landscapes,daily life,and religious symbols.These designs reflect the islanders'wishes for a better life and their innovative adaptation of external cultural influences.This paper summarizes the features and cultural con-notations of Fair Isle knitting,which provides new perspectives for uncovering the historical value and cultural sig-nificance of traditional knitted artifacts.
