Chinese modern prose anthologies can be divided into two categories:individual anthologies and general antholo-gies,the former of which are collections of representative works on the creative achievements of one writer.Individual antholo-gies can be sub-divided into"self-selected collections"and"other-selectedcollections"according to the identity of the editor,the former of which are featured by self-perception and authenticity but may be misled by personal preferences."Other-selected col-lections"can uphold the editors'detached position,editing intention and appreciation of the authors,and help get the selections that can reflect both the characteristics of the authors and the intention of the editors.These two kinds of anthologies highlight the achievements and individual styles of modern essayists,strengthen the literary concept and the sense of separation of modern prose,promote the classicization process of modern proses,and play the unique function of anthology in the selection and dissem-ination of classic writers and classic famous works.
