The grazing impacts on the species composition, diversity, height, number of herbs and the growth of staple food bamboo of Giant Panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) were studied in Wolong National Nature Reserve,a habitat for panda. The results showed that the grazing changed the composition of herbaceous species of the herb layer, increased species diversity and concentration. On the other hand, the evenness degree of species distribution was slightly decreased. The species composition of herbaceous plant communities in the damaged habitat of the giant panda was moderately similar to that of the intact one.The grazing significantly hampered the growth of arrow bamboo (Bashania faberi),its basal diameter, stem height and biomass in the grazing area were all significantly lower than those under control.
