Research Progress on the Preparation and Application of Biomimetic Intelligent Superhydrophobic Wood and Bamboo Materials
[Objective]The paper analyses the latest research progress on superhydrophobic coatings for wood and bamboo,summarizes the application areas and problems of superhydrophobic wood and bamboo,and provides an outlook on their development trends.[Method]The superhydrophobic phenomenon results from the interaction between the micro/nano layered structure and low surface energy substances on the surface of wood/bamboo materials,which is a common method for the preparation of superhydrophobic materials.The paper highlights the common preparation methods of coatings of superhydrophobic wood and bamboo materials,including impregnation,sol—gel,wet chemistry and chemical vapour deposition,and analyses the mechanism of superhydrophobic coating formation.[Result]Superhydrophobic wood and bamboo materials cover a wide range of applications,and havealready shown great application prospect in self-cleaning,self-healing,and oil/water separation.[Conclusion]Although superhydrophobic coatings have great potentials in the field of wood and bamboo materials,the problems like durability,mechanical strength,and poor transparency still pose great resistance to its development,therefore,deeper researches on superhydrophobic wood and bamboo materials are expected to be carried out in the future to address these issues.
