The CNOOC Petrochemical Stock Company, Ltd. intends to construct a methanol unit rated at 1.13 Mt/a in Dongfang city, Hainan province. The investment in this unit is expected to reach 2.36 billion RMB, and startup of the said unit is slated for the fourth quarter of 2008. Construction of this 1.13Mt/a methanol project in addition to the already coming on stream 600 kt/a methanol unit and the 200 kt/a unit of the Mongolian Tianye Chemical Company will expand the methanol production capacity of this company to 2.0 Mt/a.
