In the casting of titanium bearing stainless steels,nozzle clogging was found to be problematic and the clog was foundto contain a high proportion of solidified metal. Analysis by EPMAindicated that a layer of titanium oxide was formed at the interfacebetween nozzle inner wall and melt due to reduction of the silica inrefractory by titanium in melt during casting.
