The acaricidal effect of essential plant oils on Tetranychus urticae on tomato were conducted under in-vitro and in-vivo conditions. The bio-efficacy of plant oils under in-vitro revealed that among the eleven plant oil formulations tested, rosemary oil recorded the maximum of 76.5% reduction of mite over untreated control closely followed by neem oil (74.0%) and citronella oil (71.6%). Under in-vivo conditions, the bio-efficacy of certain promising eight plant oils from laboratory study also revealed that rosemary oil (3%) recorded the maximum % reduction of eggs (71.1%) and mites (77.0%) over the untreated control, followed by neem oil (3%) which recorded a mean % reduction of eggs (68.8%) and mites (74.7%). However, citronella oil (3%) recorded 66.2% reduction of eggs and for mites (74.7%). In terms of yield, the standard check fenpyroximate 5.0 EC @ 1.0 ml"1 recorded the highest cost benefit ratio of 1:2.68. Among the plant oil formulations, rosemary oil, neem oil and citronella oil recorded the highest cost benefit ratio and found superior to rest of the treatments. The bio-efficacy of plant oils on two stages tested i.e. egg and adult, the nymphs and adults responded very well than the egg stage, which is evident in terms of mortality of eggs and active stages compared to untreated control. Hence, while planning for an acaricidal spray, the stage of the mite should be given due weightage to achieve maximum suppression of mite population.
