Four major steelmakers project strong shipments, sales and earnings in the coming months, based in part on historically high prices. One key customer base, the construction industry, is adjusting. Based in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Steel Dynamics Inc. reports that demand for its long products is strong, supporting increased average realized pricing and expected record shipments for Engineered Bar Products, Roanoke Bar, and the Structural and Rail steel divisions. "Despite softening hot-roll coil steel pricing, broad steel demand remained solid during the second quarter, led by the automotive, construction, and industrial sectors, with energy continuing to improve."
