Selenium dioxide is traditionally regarded as an oxidant and rather as a selenium source for making organseliums.Herein,we developed a new selenation method by using selenium dioxide instead of commonly used selenium powder or diselenides to generate Se-substituted imidazoheterocycle and aniline compounds.Furthermore, sodium arenesulfinates were selected as coupling partners instead of traditional aromatic halides. All reactions give desired products in moderate to excellent yields under mild conditions.
