At Kawasaki steel's Mizushima works, enlargedtorpedo cars were adopted and the heat size at the steelmakingprocess was increased to reduce costs and improve productivity at thesteelmaking shop.With the new torpedo cars, weight was reduced by optimizingthe profile of the ladle and the thickness of t he steel shell anddeveloping a small, heavy load truck to maximize the heat size underthe restrict-ions on the total torpedo car length and weight withexisting equipment.
