Indian copper fabricator SWILs much-delayed smelter and refinery in Gujarat could be ready for commissioning by June. Rajendra K. Mittal, SWIL director and ceo, said the plant is set to produce 50,000 tpy of grade A copper cathode. It is in its final stage of completion. The company is now said to be looking for sources of copper concentrates, scrap and residues. However, its high production costs, due to the doubling of its capital cost from around 5.5bn rupees to 11bn rupees, may render the project unworkable at current copper prices.
