MANAGEMENT OF TREE TRUNK BORER, AEOLESTHES SARTA (SOLSKY) INFESTING APPLE IN KASHMIR

Management of tree trunk borer, Aeolesthes sarta (Solsky) infesting apple, Malus domestica (Borkh) was attempted using different treatments, viz. dichlorvos, aluminium phosphide, carbaryl, Beauveria bassiana, naphthalene (paradichloro benzene) balls,petrol and odonil. In all the treatments the borer holes were plugged with mud after treatment while plain mud plastering was done in control. All the treatments were significantly effective against the pest compared with check but aluminium phosphide gave the highest reduction (78.78%) in borer holes. The efficacy was in order of aluminium phosphide > carbaryl > dichlorvos > B. bassiana > naphthalene balls > odonil > petrol > plugging. Aluminium phosphide and dichlorvos were effective for more than 45days after the treatment.
