A sensor for in-situ measurements of oxygen insteelmaking slags has been developed by heraeus Electro-Nitecompany and is being used to optimize the ladle slag modifyingpractices at U. S. Steel Mon valley Works. The resulting reduction inFeO and MnO has led to improved alloy recovery, reduced taptemperature, and decreased sliver rejection rates.
