Cold modelling work has been carried out usingvarious liquids for the drop and the continuous phases, to understandthe behaviour of liquid metal drops impacting on the surface of slagin metallurgical vessels. The mechanisms and the critical conditionsfor the break-up are investigated. The variable parameters are fallingheight, initial drop size and the physico-chemical properties such asthe viscosities, the surface tensions and the densities of the bothphase liquids.
