Alcan sees aluminium mkt recording 360,000 MT surplus in '02

Canadian aluminium producer Alcan Inc. expects the Western world aluminum market to record a surplus of 360,000 metric tons in 2002, a company spokesman during an analyst call detailing its first-quarter results. Alcan also stated that it expects Western world supply to rise 2.5 percent in 2002 to total 19.85 million metric tons, while demand is expected to climb around 3.0 percent in 2002 to 19.49 million metric tons. Meanwhile, the company said that it will consider an expansion at its Alma smelter in the Saguenay-Lac-St.
