A recovery in the U.S. economy in the second half of 2002, leading to stronger consumption for copper, led UBS Warburg to lift its forecasts for spot copper prices by 3 percent to 75 cents a pound this year. In its last forecast in October, UBS Warburg estimated spot copper prices to average 73 cents/lb this year from an estimated 71.60 cents/lb last year.
