Crassiparies yunnanensis sp. nov. (Neohendersoniaceae, Pleosporales) from dead twigs of Coffea arabica in China

Arabica coffee (Coffea arabica) accounting for about 60% of the world's coffee is popular all over the world as a refreshing beverage and food additive. During surveys of fungi occurring on coffee plants, we collected a species of Neohendersoniaceae on dead twigs of an Arabica coffee plant in Pu'er, Yunnan Province, China. Phylogenetic analyses of combined SSU, LSU, ITS, rpb2, and tef gene sequences confirmed that our fungus is a distinct new species within Crassiparies. Morphological characteristics also support this taxon to be a novel species in Crassiparies. Full description, photo plate, and a phylogenetic tree to show the placement of the new species in Crassiparies are provided.
