In the UK in 2005, the WHO estimated that 24.2% of women and 21.6% of men aged between 15 and 100 years were obese (BMI>=30kg/m2). By 2015, they estimate the prevalence of obesity will have risen by over 4% to 28.3% of women and 25.8% of men.1 As Table 1 shows, this is a global problem with other countries facing the same growth in obesity prevalence in the short-term. Overall it is estimated that in 2005 there were over 400 million obese adults worldwide and that the global burden of obesity is likely to rise to over 700 millions by 2015.
