Aluminum premium softer as demand, prices languish

The US Midwest spot aluminum premium over London Metal Echange three-month prices eased further over the past week to be quoted around the 3.0-3.25 cents per pound region Wednesday, traders said. LME three-month aluminum closed the kerb Wednesday around 62.26-62.31 cents. Quiet business conditions and softening LME prices were noted as the main contributing factors behind the weakness, but the recent announcements of restarted capacity in Brazil - following an easing in energy lances and government restrictions in that country - and threats of similar action taking place in the U.S., was also serving to undermine sentiment, sources said.
