Marek's disease is the most common of the lymphoid tumour producing diseases of chickens. It is caused by a highly contagious, cell-associated, oncogenic nerpesvirus. Marek's disease virus (MDV) is ubiquitous in nature - virtually all commercial chicken flocks and many chickens within a flock are infected with MDV. Effects of the disease can range anywhere from increased mortality and leukosis condemnations to suboptimal performance and immune suppression.
