An experiment was conducted in India, during the 2005 and 2006 kharif seasons to study the effect of intercropping on insect pests (<i>Antigastra catalaunalis</i> and <i>Dasineura sesami</i>) infesting sesame. The treatments comprised: sesame (cv. TKG-22) + black gram (cv. JU-3) at 3:3, T1; sesame + green gram (cv. TM-99-37) at 3:3, T2; sesame + cluster bean (local) at 3:3, T3; sesame + pearl millet (local) at 3:3, T4; sesame + sorghum (hybrid local) at 3:3, T5; and sole sesame (T6). Larval populations of <i>A. catalaunalis</i> was significantly reduced in intercropped plots compared to sesame sole crop. The base crop and seed equivalent were maximum in plots sown with sesame + pearl millet than with sesame + cluster bean and sesame + sorghum, respectively. Intercropped grain yield was maximum in sesame intercropped with black gram followed by cluster bean and green gram. At Mandore, the maximum seed equivalent yield was in plots with sesame + green gram (2:1). At Vridhachalam, maximum seed equivalent yield was obtained when sesame was intercropped with groundnut (4:1) and at Tikamgarh, with black gram (3:1) followed by sesame + pigeon pea (3:1).
