Brazilian mining giant Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (RIO) has discovered for th first time a zinc mine in one of its exploration areas, a company spokeswoman said. CVRD, as the company is known, said the mine has reserves of 5 million tons and is located in northern Minas Gerais, a state in Brazil's southeast. CVRD researchers found the mine while looking for copper in a gold mine which was shut down last year.
