The Union Minister for Coal and Mines, Mr Ram Vilas Paswan7 has called for reducing the existing lag between the level of technology in the Indian mines and quarries and some of their counterparts in the developed countries. Inaugurating Stona 2002, the Fifth International Granites and Stones Fair in Bangalore, Mr Paswan said, "the know-how can be acquired only through interaction. The existing investment gap in the mining sector needs to be bridged by the private sector, and more importantly by the multinational corporations."
