Nippon Mining, Mitsui Mining won't close copper ops

Nippon Mining & Metals Co. Ltd. and Mitsui Mining & Smelting Co. Ltd., Japan's leading copper producers, won't close down their production facilities following their integration in the companies' merged smelting operations, Nippon Mining said. "We consider those smelters as cost competitive enough to survive" in the tough business conditions, Nippon Mining spokesman Kinichi Enomoto said. Neither Nippon Mining nor Mitsui Mining are considering copper output cuts at present, Enomoto added.
