Brussels--The European Commission is on a legal collision course with France. Italy. Luxembourg, Greece, and Denmark as the five countries have made it clear they will continue to uphold a moratorium on genetically modified crops despite new EU-widelegislation. The EU executive body said February 15 that it expects the moratorium to be lifted in the corning months. The Council of Ministers followed on the heels of the European Parliament to approve the revision of the so-called "90-220" regulatorydirective for GMOs. "There is a law" now in place that has been negotiated for five years." said Commission spokeswoman Beate Gimnder. "This law is now the strictest in the world. It is time to let the review process begin."
