Kazakhstan's Kazakhmys Says Jan-May Copper Output Up 5 percent On Yr

Kazakhstan's largest non-ferrous metals producer Kazakhmys Corp. produced around 180,000 metric tons of refined copper in January-May, up 5 percent from the 171,000 tons produced in the same period last year, the company said. Earlier in 2002, the company started to produce copper wire, exporting the output mainly to China. Kazakhmys produced 26,000 tons of zinc concentrate in January-May, down from 31,000 tons in the first five months the year before, the company said. Refined gold output was down to 1,945 kilograms against, 2,190 kilograms in the same period of last year, while granulated silver output was up to 283 tons from 260 tons in January-May 2001.
