Zhuzhou Smelter, China's second largest zinc producer, will lower its zinc output and exports this year, pressured by low zinc prices in the world market, a company official said. Zhuzhou will cut zinc and zinc alloy output to 230,000 metric tons this year, from 280,000 tons last year, said Wang Jian Jun, general manager of the company's exporting arm. "We are also cutting down exports. The (total) amount of exports this year will depend on market prices," Wang said. In January-April, Zhuzhou exported 31,000 tons of zinc ingots, down from 39,000 tons in the same period last year. Zinc smelters in China have been suffering from lower world zinc prices, which have hurt their export earnings.
