According to news reporting from Tokyo, Japan, by NewsRx journalists, re search stated, “In this study, we proposed a model for modular robots in which a utonomous decentralized modules adaptively organize their behavior.” Funders for this research include Ssup Program of The Sony Semiconductor Solutio ns Corporation; Jsps Kakenhi. Our news correspondents obtained a quote from the research from Tokyo Institute of Technology: “The phototaxis of * * Gonium pectorale* * , a species of volvoci ne algae, was modeled as a modular system, and a fault-tolerant modular control method of phototaxis was proposed for it. The proposed method was based on the r otation phase of the colony and adaptively adjusted an internal response-related parameter to enhance the fault tolerance of the system. Compared to a constant parameter approach, the simulation results demonstrated a significant improvemen t in the phototaxis time for positive and negative phototaxis during module fail ures.”

According to news originating from Harvard University by NewsR x correspondents, research stated, “An important element of the S-matrix bootstr ap program is the relationship between the modulus of an S-matrix element and it s phase.”The news correspondents obtained a quote from the research from Harvard Universi ty: “Unitarity relates them by an integral equation. Even in the simplest case o f elastic scattering, this integral equation cannot be solved analytically and n umerical approaches are required. We apply modern machine learning techniques to studying the unitarity constraint. We find that for a given modulus, when a pha se exists it can generally be reconstructed to good accuracy with machine learni ng. Moreover, the loss of the reconstruction algorithm provides a good proxy for whether a given modulus can be consistent with unitarity at all. In addition, w e study the question of whether multiple phases can be consistent with a single modulus, finding novel phase-ambiguous solutions.”

According to news reporting originating from Ames, Iowa , by NewsRx correspondents, research stated, “A combination tillage with disks, rippers, and roller baskets allows the loosening of compacted soils and the crum bling of soil clods.” Our news correspondents obtained a quote from the research from Iowa State Unive rsity: “Statistical methods for evaluating the soil tilth quality of combination tillage are limited. Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data and machine learn ing models (Random Forest (RF), Support Vector Machine (SVM), and Neural Network (NN)) are proposed to investigate roller basket pressure settings on soil tilth quality. Soil profiles were measured using LiDAR (stop and go and on-the-go) an d RGB visual images from a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) tillage experiment on clay loam soil with treatments of roller basket down, roller basket up, and no-till in three replicates. Utilizing RF, SVM, and NN methods on the LiDAR data set identified median, mean, maximum, and standard deviation as the top feature s of importance variables that were statistically affected by the roller setting s. Applying multivariate discriminatory analysis on the five statistical measure s, three soil tilth classes were predicted with mean prediction rates of 77% (Roller-basket down), 64% (Roller-basket up), and 90% (No till).”

According to news originating from Brno, Czech Republic , by NewsRx correspondents, research stated, “Agent-based evacuation models prov ide useful data of the evacuation process, but they are not primarily designed f or use during an emergency.” Funders for this research include Technology Agency of The Czech Republic; Fakul ta Stavebni, Vysoke Uceni Technicke V Brne; Brno University of Technology. Our news correspondents obtained a quote from the research from Brno University of Technology: “The paper aims to test predicting RSET using a surrogate ML mode l trained on a simulation dataset with 60 samples. A total of 9 machine learning algorithms were tested on 3 simple geometries: bottleneck, stairway and walkway . A set of 7 spatial features was used to train the surrogate models. The result s showed a relatively good ability of Artificial Neural Network to learn in scen arios involving bottlenecks and stairways, with an R2: 0.99 on the testing datas et. In the walkway scenario, all models experienced a significant drop in perfor mance, with Gradient Boost performing the best (R2: 0.92).”
