The trend started about three months back when gold prices in the global markets started shooting up. This is an unusual phenomenon as Indians are known to be buyers of gold jewellery, not sellers. But the temptation to sell jewellery is too strong right now. Gold prices of a TT bar (ten tola) have jumped by 11 percent to 326 dollars now from 299.55 dollars on March 11.

The S&P Gold Index, which includes North America's largest gold producers, has been the best sector performer this year, and the rally is not going to end any time soon, say money managers. Gold prices have been on a bull run this year amid concerns over financial irregularities in corporate America, a slumping US dollar, and tension in the Middle East. This has made gold miners one of the few safe havens in a troubled equity market.
