According to news reporting from the Universidad Autonoma de Queretaro by NewsRx journalists, research stated, “This article presents a novel technique for a class 2 tensegrity robot, also classified as a soft robot, to increase workspace by increasing the number of geometric equilibrium configurations of the robot.” Our news correspondents obtained a quote from the research from Universidad Autonoma de Queretaro: “The proposed modification, unlike the strategies reported in the literature, consists of increasing the number of points where the flexible and rigid elements that make up the robot come into contact without the need to increase the number of actuators, the number of flexible elements, or modify the geometry of the rigid elements. The form-finding methodology combines the basic principles of statics with the direct and inverse kinematic position analysis to determine the number of equilibrium positions of the modified robot. In addition, numerical experiments were carried out using the commercial software ANSYS®, R18.2 based on the finite element theory, to corroborate the results obtained with them.”

According to news reporting out of Tamil Nadu, India, by NewsRx editors, research stated, “The objective of Stock Market Forecasting (SMF) is to forecast the future value of a company's financial stocks.” Our news correspondents obtained a quote from the research from St. Xavier's College: “The availability of Machine Learning (ML), particularly obtains forecasts regarding specific prices of current stock market indexes through training on actual high economic value, constitutes a significant improvement in stock market prediction automation. ML itself utilizes a wide range of models to improve as well as evaluate prediction. Regarding the nonlinearities as well as discontinuities of the factors that are anticipated to effect stock markets, the selection of a modest price of global financial data is frequently acknowledged as a significant basic phase in any stock market prediction model.”

According to news reporting originating in Atlanta, Georgia, by NewsRx journalists, research stated, “We study approaches for adjusting machine learning methods when the training sample differs from the prediction sample on unobserved dimensions. The machine learning literature predominately assumes selection only on observed dimensions.” The news reporters obtained a quote from the research from the Georgia Institute of Technology, “Common approaches are to weight or include variables that influence selection as solutions to selection on observables. Simulation results show that selection on unobservables increases mean squared prediction error using popular machine-learning algorithms. Common machine learning practices such as weighting or including variables that influence selection into the training or prediction sample often worsen sample selection bias. We propose two control function approaches that remove the effects of selection bias before training and find that they reduce mean-squared prediction error in simulations. We apply these approaches to predicting the vote share of the incumbent in gubernatorial elections using previously observed re-election bids.”

According to news originating from Vienna, Austria, by NewsRx correspondents, research stated, “Literary occasionalisms, new words coined by writers with a particular poetic aim in view, often pose a great challenge for translators. Given recent advances in machine translation (MT), could literary translators benefit from MT when it comes to the translation of occasionalisms? We address this question by considering the work of Austria's most important nineteenth-century comedy writer, Johann Nestroy (1801-1862).” Our news journalists obtained a quote from the research from the University of Vienna, “We compare how human translators and two generic neural MT systems (Google Translate, DeepL) translated occasionalisms (compounds, derivations, and blends) in Nestroy's play Der Talisman into English. While human translators largely refrained from creating new target expressions, the two MT systems generated a number of viable new coinages, most of them by literal translation procedures.”

According to news reporting originating from Anhui, People's Republic of China, by NewsRx correspondents, research stated, “A minute fraction of patients stands to derive substantial benefits from immunotherapy, primarily attributable to immune evasion. Our objective was to formulate a predictive signature rooted in genes associated with cytotoxic T lymphocyte evasion (CERGs), with the aim of predicting outcomes and discerning immunotherapeutic response in colorectal cancer (CRC).” Funders for this research include National Natural Science Foundation of China, Research Fund of Anhui Institute of Translational Medicine. Our news editors obtained a quote from the research from the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University, “101 machine learning algorithm combinations were applied to calculate the CERGs prognostic index (CERPI) under the cross-validation framework, and patients with CRC were separated into high- and low-CERPI groups. Relationship between immune cell infiltration levels, immune-related scores, malignant phenotypes and CERPI were further analyzed. Various machine learning methods were used to identify key genes related to both patient survival and immunotherapy benefits. Expression of HOXC6, G0S2, and MX2 was evaluated and the effects of HOXC6 and G0S2 on the viability and migration of a CRC cell line were in-vitro verified. The CERPI demonstrated robust prognostic efficacy in predicting the overall survival of CRC patients, establishing itself as an independent predictor of patient outcomes. The low-CERPI group exhibited elevated levels of immune cell infiltration and lower scores for tumor immune dysfunction and exclusion, indicative of a greater potential benefit from immunotherapy. Moreover, there was a positive correlation between CERPI levels and malignant tumor phenotypes, suggesting that heightened CERPI expression contributes to both the occurrence and progression of tumors. Thirteen key genes were identified, and their expression patterns were scrutinized through the analysis of single-cell datasets. Notably, HOXC6, G0S2, and MX2 exhibited upregulation in both CRC cell lines and tissues. Subsequent knockdown experiments targeting G0S2 and HOXC6 resulted in a significant suppression of CRC cell viability and migration.”

According to news reporting out of Beijing, People's Republic of China, by NewsRx editors, research stated, “Capsular contracture is a prevalent and severe complication that affects the postoperative outcomes of patients who receive silicone breast implants. At present, prosthesis replacement is the major treatment for capsular contracture after both breast augmentation procedures and breast reconstruction following breast cancer surgery.” Our news journalists obtained a quote from the research from Peking Union Medical College, “However, the mechanism(s) underlying breast capsular contracture remains unclear. This study aimed to identify the biological features of breast capsular contracture and reveal the potential underlying mechanism using RNA sequencing. Sample tissues from 12 female patients (15 breast capsules) were divided into low capsular contracture (LCC) and high capsular contracture (HCC) groups based on the Baker grades. Subsequently, 41 lipid metabolism-related genes were identified through enrichment analysis, and three of these genes were identified as candidate genes by SVM-RFE and LASSO algorithms. We then compared the proportions of the 22 types of immune cells between the LCC and HCC groups using a CIBERSORT analysis and explored the correlation between the candidate hub features and immune cells. Notably, PRKAR2B was positively correlated with the differentially clustered immune cells, which were M1 macrophages and follicular helper T cells (area under the ROC = 0.786). In addition, the expression of PRKAR2B at the mRNA or protein level was lower in the HCC group than in the LCC group. Potential molecular mechanisms were identified based on the expression levels in the high and low PRKAR2B groups.”

According to news reporting originating from Hangzhou, People's Republic of China, by NewsRx correspondents, research stated, “Solute carrier transporters (SLCs) are a class of important transmembrane proteins that are involved in the transportation of diverse solute ions and small molecules into cells. There are approximately 450 SLCs within the human body, and more than a quarter of them are emerging as attractive therapeutic targets for multiple complex diseases, e.g., depression, cancer, and diabetes.” Our news editors obtained a quote from the research from Zhejiang University, “However, only 44 unique transporters ( 9.8% of the SLC superfamily) with 3D structures and specific binding sites have been reported. To design innovative and effective drugs targeting diverse SLCs, there are a number of obstacles that need to be overcome. However, computational chemistry, including physics-based molecular modeling and machine learning- and deep learning-based artificial intelligence (AI), provides an alternative and complementary way to the classical drug discovery approach. Here, we present a comprehensive overview on recent advances and existing challenges of the computational techniques in structure-based drug design of SLCs from three main aspects: (i) characterizing multiple conformations of the proteins during the functional process of transportation, (ⅱ) identifying druggability sites especially the cryptic allosteric ones on the transporters for substrates and drugs binding, and (ⅲ) discovering diverse small molecules or synthetic protein binders targeting the binding sites.”

According to news originating from Baghdad, Iraq, by NewsRx correspondents, research stated, “The main contribution of this paper is to develop an innovative algorithm to accurately detect and identify the shape and color of objects under various light intensities and find their location to be manipulated by a pick-and-place robotic arm.” The news reporters obtained a quote from the research from University of Technology-Iraq: “Workpieces of various shapes and colors are dispersed on the robot's work plane and manipulated according to its specifications. The proposed algorithm utilizes the HSV color model to distinguish between different object colors and shapes. The S channel is used to detect the shapes of objects. After that, a series of filters (Median, Bilateral, and Gaussian) are applied to reduce the noise of the segmented image to make the process of discovering the shape and coordinates of the objects successful. The draw-contour method is used to discover the object's shapes. After the shape of the object is discovered, the centroid coordinates are calculated.” According to the news editors, the research concluded: “After extensive testing on 354 images that are captured in various lighting conditions in the range of (5-7000 lux), the overall system performance of 93.83% is achieved, and the average execution time is 2.21s. Finally, we had a dependable flexible automatic pick and place system that could correctly detect and identify the objects based on their features.”

According to news reporting out of Shenyang, People's Republic of China, by NewsRx editors, research stated, “In order to achieve automatic rounding for blade tip, the study was conducted on small radius rounding based on elastic grinding, and a method of robot automatic grinding for small radius fillets of blade tip was proposed. An elastic grinding wheel with polyester ammonia fiber as substrate material utilized the characteristics of elastic envelope deformation contact to grind sharp angles of blade tip to small radius fillets.” Financial support for this research came from Key research projects of Provincial Department of Education. Our news journalists obtained a quote from the research from Shenyang Ligong University, “Based on elastic contact theory and Preston removal theory, theoretical contact model and material removal model between grinding wheel and blade tip were established. Contact stress distribution and grinding removal amount were simulated by Abaqus software. Simulation result demonstrates that adaptive elastic contact deformation between grinding wheel and sharp angle of blade tip forms small surface envelope contact pattern and variable grinding removal amount, which can realize small radius fillet machining. Robot automatic rounding experiments for blade tip were conducted to verify feasibility and controllability of the machining method. Research results indicate that the elastic deformation of grinding wheel causes an arc-shaped contact stress distribution in contact area of blade tip and abrasive coated on substrate can achieve small radius fillet grinding. The combination of passive compliance formed by elastic grinding deformation and active force control is feasible to realize robot automatic rounding for small radius fillets, and the fillet radius can be controlled by changing grinding process parameters.”
