查看更多>>摘要:Ernest Hemingway was not only literature master, but also a language genius. Among al his works, The Old Man and the Sea is Earnest Hemingway’s last major work which was published 1952. The book is regarded as the most important work of Hemingway’s language writing principle and classical one for its literary value. The story of this work is simple, the language is plain concise and easy to understand. The dialogue is combined with the realistic and the artidcial, but actually deliberate and artiTcial. At entively reading The Old Man and the Sea, we can realize that he used simple daily words which have exact meaning and a few syl able. As for the choice of sentence, he was good at using simple statements rather than the very complex compound structures to construct his novels. These simple words and sentences present the things vividly in front of readers, He dose not construct his novels with the aid of rhetoric to demagogy. Besides, Hemingway needed implicit words to express the implied meaning. The famous iceberg principle is the writer’s language navigation mark. Hemingway put down the simple and plain things as they are, and as for their inner mean, he believed the readers felt the exact and profound art world. Occasional y, the author used some ngures of speech, which makes the language richer and the article ful of navor. This paper tries to adopt a stylistic approach and analyzes mainly language features, the reason and infuence, and helps readers to reach the ultimate target of a novel.
