Students in the 21st century,who have been born into a world of technology with wide access to the Internet,become the largest group in using Inter-net and social media.A study conducted by Smith,Rainie,&Zickuhr (2011) showed that nearly 100% college students (undergrad-uate and graduate students) access the internet on a daily basis.Therefore,the learning styles of these'netizrns',with the wide range of technological assistance,are just different from that of the previous generations.Given that,curriculum designers have the responsi-bilities to blend new literacies in students' courses in order to meet the learning habits of the latest generation and maximize the learning outcomes of students.
查看更多>>摘要:Education at current stage is about developing intelligence.Professor Howard Gardner of Harvard University,one of theforemost psychologists,described intelligence as the ability to solve problems in one's particular context and culture.Many educa-tors support the need to develop the multiple intelligences,but few realize that one of the best ways to draw forth these intelligences is to make use of problem scenarios.Intelligence in the real world involves not only learning how to do things and actually doing them, but also the ability to deal with novelty as well as the capacity to adapt, select and shape our interactions with the environment (Sternberg,1985,1986,1990).Problem-based learning is about harnessing the kinds of intelligences needed in confronting real world challenges:the ability to deal with novelty and complexity (Tan,2000c).Therefore,problem-based learning is becoming one of a necessary approach in educators' mind and practical usage in daily teaching.
